The bull case: $350 (+36.7% from spot)

The bull case is not “AI is good for Salesforce.” It is a specific arithmetic claim: that revenue growth reaccelerates from the current 11% toward roughly 15% compound through FY2029 while the 34%+ non-GAAP operating margin holds. That is the shape of Morgan Stanley’s published bull scenario, and it is the only path that supports a $350 print on any defensible multiple.

Four things have to go right, and two of them already are.

cRPO is the leading indicator, and it is already accelerating. Current remaining performance obligation grew 14% against reported revenue growth of 11%. In a subscription business, forward bookings turning up before revenue does is the cleanest early signal there is, and management guided Q3 cRPO growth to approximately 14% again. Two consecutive quarters of cRPO outrunning revenue by three points is how an 11% grower becomes a 14% grower with a four-quarter lag.

Consumption is compounding faster than the ARR line suggests. Salesforce reported 7.0 billion Agentic Work Units delivered to date across Agentforce and Slack, of which 3.2 billion came in Q2 alone — up 97% quarter on quarter. Nearly half of all AWUs ever delivered were delivered in the most recent three months. On a metered pricing model, that consumption curve is the revenue curve with a billing lag. This is the single most important number in the release and it is buried three lines below the ARR headline.

Claudeforce has to convert distribution into consumption. The 37 prebuilt sales skills go to open beta in September 2026, with skills for functions beyond sales arriving late 2026. The bull case needs Salesforce-in-Claude to become the default way sellers touch CRM data, because every one of those interactions is a metered API call. Patrick Stokes, Salesforce’s President of Applications and Marketing, framed the addressable behaviour precisely: a deal review that “is like 10,000 clicks inside of Salesforce” becomes a single Claude request. Ten thousand clicks were worth one seat. The equivalent agent workflow is worth however many API calls it consumes.

Margin discipline has to survive the transition. Non-GAAP operating margin of 34.1% in the quarter and 34.3% guided for FY27, alongside operating cash flow up 71% and free cash flow up 81%, says the company is not buying growth. If Salesforce can add four points of growth without giving back margin, a re-rating toward $350 is arithmetic rather than hope.

Timeline: this is a FY28 story that the market would need to start discounting by mid-2027. Realistically, $350 requires two clean cRPO prints and disclosed consumption pricing at Dreamforce.

The base case: $300 (+17.2% from spot)

The base case is the boring one and therefore the likely one. Salesforce grows revenue 11–12%, roughly three points of which is the Informatica contribution rather than organic expansion, holds a 34% non-GAAP margin, delivers FY27 non-GAAP EPS in the guided $16.67–$16.71 range, and gets re-rated modestly because the existential discount that opened in the first half of 2026 was overdone. At $300 on the midpoint of FY27 guidance the stock trades at roughly 18 times non-GAAP earnings — cheap for a 34%-margin software franchise, expensive for an 11% grower, which is exactly the tension.

This is where the concentration of analyst targets sits. BTIG’s Allan Verkhovski moved to $300, Truist and Jefferies both see at least $300, and Raymond James’s $310 is only marginally above. The consensus is not that Claudeforce transforms Salesforce; it is that Claudeforce removes the reason to price Salesforce for terminal decline. Analysts called it a “narrative-changing quarter,” and narrative repair is worth a multiple point or two, not a re-rating to growth-stock status.

The base case also assumes the $2.6bn Anthropic gain does not repeat and nobody pretends it will. Excluding it, Q2 non-GAAP EPS was approximately $3.37 against a $3.27 consensus — a beat of about 3%, which is a normal quarter. Investors modelling forward off the reported $5.90 are modelling off a number that includes a private-equity mark on the counterparty to the partnership being celebrated. Do not do that.

The bear case: $150 (-41.4% from spot)

The bear case does not require anything exotic. It requires the market to go back to believing what it believed on 22 June 2026, when CRM closed at $150.12. That is the level, and its defensibility as a target comes from the fact that real capital transacted there ten weeks ago on the same fundamentals.

The mechanism is the one Claudeforce does not solve. If AI agents let companies do more work with fewer people, they need fewer Salesforce seats. If those people increasingly work inside Claude rather than inside Salesforce, they spend less time in the product that Salesforce has always monetised by presence. Claudeforce answers the second half of that by making Salesforce the data layer behind Claude — but it answers it by moving to metered billing, which is precisely the model that stops tracking headcount. Salesforce has swapped an existential risk for a business-model risk. That is a good trade. It is not a free one.

Management’s counter is empirical and worth taking seriously: seats grew across Agentforce and Slack this quarter, and attrition is near its lowest level on record. That is genuine evidence against the thesis, and it is why $150 is a bear case rather than a base case. But one quarter of seat growth during an enterprise AI land-grab does not settle a five-year question about pricing architecture.

Morgan Stanley’s formal bear scenario is materially lower still, at $90, built on AI-native competitors eroding growth toward mid-single digits over three years. We regard that as the tail rather than the case. A $90 print implies roughly 6.5 times FY27 guided non-GAAP EPS for a business generating 34% operating margins and $66.3bn of contracted backlog, which requires assuming the backlog itself does not convert. Possible; not the modal bad outcome.

The more realistic route to $150 is slower and duller: cRPO growth decelerates back toward 11%, Agentforce ARR growth normalises from 240% as the base gets larger, the Anthropic gain does not repeat so reported EPS falls sharply year on year, and the multiple compresses back to where it sat in June. No thesis break required — just the absence of confirmation.

What would change our mind

Explicit disconfirmation triggers, because a price target without them is decoration.

Bullish trigger. Salesforce publishes consumption pricing tiers for headless API access at Dreamforce, and Q3 cRPO growth comes in at or above 14% as guided. That combination makes the metered-revenue model underwritable and confirms the bookings acceleration is not a one-quarter artefact. Raise the base toward the bull.

Bearish trigger. Q3 cRPO growth prints below 12%, or the September open beta slips into Q4 without explanation. Either would suggest the Claudeforce distribution advantage is further out than the market has priced. Also watch the Agentic Work Units sequential growth rate: 97% quarter on quarter is unsustainable by construction, but a fall below roughly 30% sequential would indicate the consumption flywheel is not spinning as advertised.

Structural trigger, either direction. The Anthropic IPO. Salesforce Ventures holds an Anthropic stake that produced a $2.6bn gain this quarter. A public listing marks that position to a liquid price and removes the discretion in the valuation, which cuts both ways for reported EPS and materially changes the quality of Salesforce’s earnings — for better or worse.

The gap between the tape and the practitioners

One dissonance is worth flagging because it does not show up in any model. The stock rose 22.58% in a session.
